The airline reported that the flight experienced an issue with the communication equipment, radio contact was never lost. Rather than continuing the flight across the Atlantic the captain decided to divert to Toronto where the equipment can be fixed.
A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N775UA was dispatched to Toronto to take the passengers back to Chicago, the aircraft is currently enroute westbound to Chicago. Another flight is expected to take them to Frankfurt the following morning.
NAV Canada reported that the crew advised of communication problems, subsequently they reported they had navigation problems as well. The crew cycled through the transponder codes for unlawful interference and loss of communication. With the help of company dispatch it was determined that the transmission of the unlawful interference squawk was not valid. The crew intended to return to Chicago, however subsequently squawked emergency and diverted to Toronto's runway 23 for a safe landing.
The FAA reported after contact with the company, that the pilot in command had spilled coffee over the radio equipment which interfered with the communication equipment. He inadvertently sent the unlawful interference code, then changed to loss of communication code.

Varstele barbatului explicate tehnic
Barbatul pana in 20 de ani: Avion de Hartie Numai zboruri rapide, de scurta distanta si foarte scurta durata.
De la 20 la 30: Avion de vanatoare Intodeauna la post, 7 zile pe saptamana. Ataca orice obiectiv. Capabil sa execute diferite misiuni chiar cand acestea sunt la un interval scurt de timp.
De la 30 la 40: Aeronava comerciala Mentine orare regulate. Destinatii destul de cunoscute si de rutina. Zborurile intodeauna ies la ora prevazuta, dar mai necesita mutari si adaptari care irita clienti.
De la 40 la 50: Aeronava comerciala pentru zboruri internationale. Functioneaza la orele de lux. Destinatii de inalt nivel cu rare abateri. Clientela soseste cu mari sperante, la sfarsit iese obosita, dar satisfacuta.
De la 50 la 60: Aeronava cargo Pregatiri intense si multa munca inainte de decolare. Odata in aer, manevreaza lent si ofera foarte putin confort in timpul zborului. Clientela este compusa in majoritate din valize si tot felul de vechituri.
De la 60 la 70: Deltaplan Necesita conditii externe exceptionale pentru a-si lua zborul, de o munca teribila pentru a decola iar dupa aceea evita manevre bruste pentru ca sa nu cada inainte de de timp. Dupa aterizare, demonteaza si strange tot echipamentul.
De la 70 la 80: Planor Zboara uneori, dar numai ajutat. Repertoriul manevrelor extrem de limitat. Odata ajuns la sol are nevoie de ajutor pentru a ajunge la hangar.
Dupa 80: Aeromodel Este doar decorativ, de functionat nici nu se mai pune problema.

Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi (1609-1640), un locuitor al Instanbulului in timpul Imperiului Otoman este "creditat" cu primul "zbor" cu aripi artificiale din istoria aviatiei. Evenimentul a avut loc in anul 1638 in timpul domniei sultanului Murad IV. Hezarfens-a lansat din turnul Galata de langa Bosfor (183 picioare) si a aterizat la Uskudar pe partea cealalta a Bosforului. Info aici si aici.
