Companie greceasca cu capital privat, concurenta lui Olympic (fosta de stat, a fost si ea privatizata anul trecut).

Fondata in 1987, membra a Star Alliance, se pozitioneaza mai degraba ca o companie regionala, au si multe avioane inchiriate in sistem charter (vara ii vezi destul de mult la noi in oferta agentiilor de turism).

Din cate stiu eu, si cu atat mai mult dupa restructurarile si privatizarea Olympic, e cea mai mare companie greceasca.

Aeagean si Olympic Airways vor fuziona urmand ca sigla OA sa se pastreze. Parerea mea ca se incearca o strutzo-camila, desi poate managementul A3 va salva ceva din OA. Oricum Lufthansa isi intareste pozitia in Europa ...

Tinand cont de unele similitudini din realitatea romaneasca (vezi RO si JOR) poate le vine unora idei....

Si cu ocazia asta Aegean renunta complet la zborurile OTP-ATH din orarul de vara.

Pentru spotteri nu va fi o problema prea mare, deoarece vor opera mai multe curse charte în vara spre insulele grecesti.

Corect. Din 28Martie Aegean nu va mai zbura in OTP. Se vor face doar zboruri charter ce au fost deja contractate deci mai sunt sanse pentru poze....

The carrier added several European destinations last year, including Paris, Berlin and Madrid.

However, weak consumer confidence and declining demand for airline services put pressure on average fares, particularly during the last four months of the year, it said. This were partly offset by cost benefits arising from its fleet renewal.

The carrier has taken delivery of 22 new Airbus A320/321 jets in recent years.

"Operating profitability was significantly reduced but remained in positive territory in a year when the majority of European airlines reported losses," Managing Director Dimitris Gerogiannis said in a statement.

Aegean said it carried 6.6 million passengers last year, 10 percent more than in 2008. Passenger traffic on domestic flights grew 2 percent while on international routes it rose 22 percent.

Aegean, with a fleet of 32 aircraft, is in the process of joining Star Alliance. Its planned merger with Olympic Air is expected to be completed in 2011.

Despite the tough economic environment in Greece, AEGEAN continues to strengthen its international presence.

Starting from Friday, 9 March 2012, AEGEAN will offer a new direct service between Athens and the political and cultural capital of Hungary. AEGEAN will connect Athens to Budapest with 4 flights per week. The aircraft will depart every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from Athens International Airport at 09:15 and will return from Budapest International Airport at 11:05 (local time).

Dimitris Gerogiannis, Managing Director of AEGEAN stated: “We are facing a winter season with the lowest demand during Aegean Airline’s lifetime, a sharp rise in fuel prices and uncharacteristically and unnecessarily high airport fees and taxes in Athens determined by the Greek state. We have already made adjustments to our overall planning, due to low demand, but at the same remain vigilant and respond to opportunities that are compatible with our company strategy and meet the demands of the Greek tourism product.”

The flights to Budapest will be operated with the brand new AIRBUS A320, with 168 seating capacity, in dual class configuration offering a full meal and an in-flight entertainment system with six music channels without extra charges. Business class passengers will be able to enjoy improved seat comfort, a choice of meals and Greek wines, as well espresso or cappuccino. The flight schedule is designed in a way so as to offer connections from/ to the rest of Greece.

Aegean Airlines Accelerates Olympic Air Network Realignment to Feb 2014

As of 18DEC13, Aegean Airlines accelerates planned network realignment with Olympic Air. Following routes will be now be transferred from Olympic Air to Aegean Airlines, starting 01FEB14, instead of 30MAR14.
Operational aircraft, by Olympic Air Dash8-Q400, remains unchanged. Following listed frequencies is valid for Summer 2014 season, from 30MAR14:
Athens – Chios 3 daily
Athens – Ioannina 12 weekly
Athens – Kefallinia 1 daily (2 daily from 21JUN14 to 01SEP14)
Athens – Limnos 10 weekly (2 daily from 22JUN14 to 11SEP14)
Athens – Samos 3 daily (4 daily from 20JUN14 to 09SEP14)
Athens – Sofia 8 weekly
Athens – Tirana 12 weekly
Following Olympic Air routes will also be transferred to Aegean Airlines from 01FEB14 (previously not reported):
Athens – Alexandroupolis
Athens – Belgrade
Athens – Bucharest
Athens – Corfu
Athens – Istanbul
