A small plane made an emergency landing on Thursday on a busy motorway between Helsinki and Porvoo. Although there was busy traffic on Highway 7 at the time, no-one was injured and the Cessna aircraft was not damaged.
The plane was being piloted by a student when it developed engine trouble en route to Helsinki's Malmi Airport. An instructor took the controls and safely landed about 20 kilometres east of the capital.
Rescue officials say that a major disaster was narrowly averted. Route 7 was closed for about an hour as the plane was towed to safety. Officials from the Accident Investigation Board are to inspect the plane.
A similar, safe emergency landing was made at nearly the same spot on the motorway four years ago.
