Titlu: 172,000 euros stolen from Air Antilles Express flight
- Citat :
- MARIGOT--A warrant is out for the arrest of a French metropolitan man who pulled off an audacious robbery aboard an Air Antilles Express flight from Guadeloupe to St. Martin on Wednesday morning, according to French side media reports.
The man, aged in his forties and accompanied by a female accomplice, was able to access the cargo hold of the ATR 42 plane via the toilet and allegedly stole the money located in bags in the hold that was destined for banks and ATM machines in St. Martin.
He was able to accomplish the feat during the 40-minute flight without raising suspicion, because he locked himself in the toilet, feigning sickness. The female accomplice reportedly went back and forth to the toilet to see if he was alright. At a certain point medical services were requested to meet the man at the airport on arrival and take him to hospital.
On arrival he suddenly felt better and because there was a "medical emergency" he was able to evade going through customs and immigration. He managed to escape with the money in circumstances that were not exactly clear. It only became apparent that money had been stolen when bank notes were found in the toilet.
The Gendarmerie declined to comment on the incident yesterday. However, Prosecutor Jacques Louvier said the female accomplice had been detained and is currently in custody in La Savane.
It remains to be seen how the man knew a large sum of money was located in the hold of the plane, but it is not the first time this happened. Last November a courier had 220,000 euros stolen from his parked car near the cemetery in Marigot.
