| I’ve been asked some questions about the LOT aircraft impounded in Romania early in WWII. Are there any articles or photos relating to the LOT fleet as it arrived in Romania (particularly were any wearing the British registrations allocated for BOAC service?). Photos of the LOT fleet remarked with YR- registrations would also be interesting. On the link below there is a photo of the ex-LOT DC-2 YR-GAD at Marseilles....was this possibly carrying the Romanian President Antonescu on a trip to Spain and Portugal?(in 1941?) (Possibly interesting that this DC-2 got a YR-reg based on its proposed British registration whereas the Lockheed 14 YR-BNH, which survived to visit Croydon post-war got a YR-reg based on its Polish registration, although G-AGAC was allocated)

| Some further data on YR-GAD.
SP-ASL Douglas DC-2-115F 1378 CofR # 335 Reg. 03/08/35 to LOT; evacuated to Romania 10/09/39; reg. G-AGAD 07/11/39 to Imperial Airways but remained in Romania and marks officially ntu; one source says that it was initially stored in the Air France hangar, part-camouflaged 20/09/39 when taken over by Romanian government, camouflage removed in 11/39 and fully painted as G-AGAD -- engines were run regularly -- late in 1939 it made an unauthorised flight to Caracal and was used for training purposes by the Air Force (in what marks ?); reg. YR-GAD to the Romanian Government for operation by LARES with CofA # 470 on 25/10/41; burned at Boteni due to enemy action, date unknown as is canc. date.
Anyone know when it was destroyed at Boteni? | |

| There is another interesting article on this subject, and relating to the aircraft which escaped to Romania. I've scanned it at:-

Again, I'll leave these on my site for 2-3 weeks.
