Pilotul Felix Baumgartner a anuntat astazi intentia sa de a extinde limitele de explorare aerospatiala, devenind prima persoana din lume al carei corp va depasi viteza sunetului.

Baumgartner intentioneaza sa urce intr-o capsula ridicata de un balon cu heliu pana in staturile superioare ale Stratosferei, la o inaltime de cel putin 36,000 de metri deasupra nivelului marii, protejat de un costum presurizat, asemanator costumelor spatiale. De acolo, Felix va efectua o cadere libera, ajungand la viteza care ar putea depasi Mach 1.0 – peste 1,100 km/h – inainte de a-si deschide parasuta pentru a ateriza pe Pamant.
