I seem to have c/n 39 as both YR-MEJ and YR-MEZ. I suspect one is wrong on my list.

Yes, YR-MEJ's construction number was (is) 39 (clearly visible on the tail).

YR-MEG was also noted 'roadrunning' on a trailer near Piteşti Oct-04. No idea where to.

Could someone help me with the serial numbers of the four IAR.823's which crashed:-

6 august 1977 - Regimentul 19, Focsani August 6, 1977 - Regiment 19, Focsani

10 aprilie 1980 - Regimentul 19, Focsani April 10, 1980 - Regiment 19, Focsani

6 iulie 1981 - ENAM, Negage, Angola - cazut la cateva secunde dupa decolare din cauza unei engine failure July 6, 1981 - ENAME, Negage, Angola - fell a few seconds after takeoff due to engine failure

20 august 1991 - Regimentul 19, Focsani August 20, 1991 - Regiment 19, Focsani"

01 is preserved at the Romanian National Military Museum, while 15 and 19 are at the Romanian National Aviation Museum, in Bucharest.

About the iar-823, crashed in Angola, it happened in Negage in the summer of '81. The plane belonged to the Air Force of Angola, being sold by romanian M.o.D as a trainer for the new-born Angolan A.F. plus another 11 of them, 6 BN-2 Islander and 6 iar-316 Alouette, in a 32 million dollars contract.(it was happening in the Cold War era). The purpose of this contract was to help them lay the foundation of a military flight school. The flight instructors were romanian pilots and unfortunately part of the 2-member crew that crashed in Negage, was romanian instructor, major Gheorghe Preda. Both of them(student+instructor) died, after an engine failure, at 50 meters altitude, after the take-off. Because of the rough terrain, they tried to avoid the area and probably because of the low-speed turn, the plane stalled an touched the ground. Their death came after the instant and aggresive turn upside-down of the plane.
I took this information from "Magazin Istoric" magazine of this month, April 2012, coincidence with this started thread, of course you can find out more informations about this in the reportage. Unfortunately the registrations of the sold planes weren't mentioned but it's probably easy to find them out by contacting the magazine's editor who took the interview of one of the instructiors from Angola.

Anyone know where YR-MEG is? Was seen as late as 2004.

Interestingly there are currently 41 IAR823's listed by the FAA in the US!

Despre IAR-828 nici o sansa, a existat doar un singur prototip care actualmente se afla la Muzeul Aviatiei

Ok știți dacă YR-MEH este recuperabil și dacă da cu cine trebuie să iau legătura...? Obiectivul meu este să găsesc un 823, să-l aduc în Canada și să dau drumul la un aeroclub pentru Români. Până acuma cunosc circă vreo 20 de piloți Români privați și comerciali în Canada. Suntem câțiva care suntem atrași de acest aparat și ar fi extrem de interesant să-l putem zbura aici. Nu am nicio cunoștință față de cum să procedez și cine trebuie să contactez în România. Avionul are un consum relativ mare de benzină (80 de litri pe ora) dar totuși este o bijuterie al patrimoniului și aviației Române. Dacă reușim să aducem u n IAr823 aici, îl vom restaura și-l vom zbura cu cea mai mare plăcere aici. Sunt sigur că nu doar piloții români din Canada s-ar bucura ce și cei 225 000 de români ce au ales Canada ca țara lor de adopție (deja cunosc noște ziare românești locale care ar fi ultra interesate să scrie despre proiect)..!

...exista un IAR-824 in hangar la aeroclub BAY.

Am vazut pe net anunturi cu vanzare IAR-823, de catre persoane din SUA parca. Cele din Romania s-au dat demult.

Oare cate din ele mai sunt in stare de functionare si cate zac prin hangare sau pe afara fie in SUA fie in Angola ?
