- US FAA Air Traffic Organization COO Hank Krakowski resigned Thursday as the agency conducts a "top to bottom review" of the way it operates the US ATC system in the wake of several embarrassing incidents involving controllers, including unresponsive controllers who apparently were asleep on the job (ATW Daily News, April 14).
FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt said in a statement that he accepted Krakowski's resignation at a Thursday morning meeting. FAA Chief Counsel David Grizzle will serve as acting head of ATO until a permanent replacement is found.
"Over the last few weeks we have seen examples of unprofessional conduct on the part of a few individuals that have rightly caused the traveling public to question our ability to ensure their safety," said Babbitt. "This conduct must stop immediately. I am committed to maintaining the highest level of public confidence and that begins with strong leadership … I will continue to make whatever changes are necessary to ensure we concentrate on keeping the traveling public safe." | |
