MOSCOW, December 2 (Itar-Tass) – A bizarre incident paralyzed the work of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport for almost thirty minutes Thursday night, compelling the crews of six arriving jets to divert to standby airports.

The incident was caused by a bull that escaped from the cargo terminal of the airport and ran strait to the runways.

Anna Zakharenkova, the official spokeswoman for one of Russia’s biggest air hubs told Itar-Tass.

The incident occurred at 18:38 Moscow Standard Time when unloading of cattle from a cargo aircraft was in progress.

“For the reason that’s not yet known, one of the bulls broke out of the fence and ran away,” Zakharenkova said.

Airdrome security officers and workers of the airport compound were immediately given a task to catch the fugitive bovine. They managed to cope with it almost thirty minutes later when the bull had reached the airport’s northern sector where the passenger terminals B /formerly known as Sheremetyevo-1/ and C are located.

“During the forces break, six flights had to divert to the Domodedovo airport and to St Petersburg,” Zakharenkova said.

An inquiry into the incident was underway at the time of reporting, while arrivals and departures had fully returned to normal schedules.
