It will also be able to fly longer distances without refueling, potentially saving time on flights.

The prospect of fuel savings and fewer emissions has made the Dreamliner the best-selling new aircraft to date. Airlines have rushed to order 840 of the aircraft at between $150 million and $205 million each.

However, some of these orders have been cancelled, because of the delays and the weak global economy.

Today's flight - and the next nine months of tests - mark the beginning of the plane's journey to commercial use.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes spokesman Jim Proulx says: 'They will essentially make sure that the airplane, under normal circumstances, flies the way it's supposed to fly.'

Howard Wheeldon, transport analyst with BGC Partners, is enthusiastic about the significance of the flight.

He describes the Dreamliner as revolutionary, telling the BBC World Service that the project will reshape the aviation industry.

'This is an aircraft that changes the whole basis of flying, because of the equipment onboard,' he says.

'In terms of the cost of operation, this is an 80 per cent composite material aircraft, with 35 tonnes of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, so it is a light aircraft - which means it burns less fuel.'

Boeing has been criticised for outsourcing much of the production of the new jetliner, but the company has said that the newness of the design has made it essential to work with international partners.

After rigorous testing, the first planes, which will carry between 250 and 330 passengers, will be ready in late 2010 and will be delivered to Japan's All Nippon Airways."

Legat de A380, la momentul la care au inceput sa apara proiectele si ideea unui astfel de aparat (ca marime si capacitate de transport) un lucru a fost clar atat pentru Boeing cat si pentru Airbus. Ca proiectul sa fie profitabil un singur producator trebuie sa scoata un astfel de aparat, altfel isi faceau rau unul altuia si nimeni nu avea de castigat. Date fiind investitiile necesare Airbus a decis sa duca proiectul mai departe... Deci, cel putin pe termen mediu, este dificil sa apara un concurent. Boeing incearca ceva cu 747-8, insa totusi deocamdata nu are cum sa apara un concurent pentru A380.

e de aceasi talie ca 767 deoarece a fost facut sa inlocuiasca 767-le

Este un concurent direct pt A380, ambele avioane fac parte din strategia de viitor si pe termen lung a celor 2 firme. Airbus a mizat pe calatoriile cu avionul din punctul A in C, iar Boeing au mizat pe calatoriile cu escale A-B-C. Cine a avut dreptate se va vedea dupa nr de pasageri si bilete vandute cat si unitiati vandute la companiile aeriene.

P.S. nu cred ca este inlocuitorul lui 767.

Aripa este proiectata astfel incat sa nu fie nevoie de winglet. Defapt capatul aripii actioneaza ca un winglet.

Trecand peste propagandistic crap, sper ca nu au grabit asa tare lansarea incat sa fi omis vreo chestie.
Ar fi pacat ca proiectul sa fie stigmatizat de vreun incident in faza de testare. Mai ales ca rabdarea companiilor care il asteapta a cam fost intinsa la maxim.

Nu sunt de parere ca un fapt asa important din istoria aviatiei sa fie catalogat ca si crap in traducere porcarie , rahat (pardon de traducerea prea exacta ). Parca nu vreau sa citesc pe forum asemenea aprecieri vulgare.
Boeing e indreptatit sa isi faca propaganda / publicitate pentru ca e un produs ca oricare altul cu singura diferenta ca e foarte scump. Firmele si pasagerii trebuie sa aiba incredere si sa consume acest produs.

Fiecare avion nou are parte in faza de testare de evenimente si intr-un fel e bine pentru se preveni aparitia lor in timpul exploatarii comerciale. Totul este ca incidentele sa nu se transforme in accidente sau mai rau catastrofe.

Va aduc aminte de legea lui Murphy care zice , citez din memorie : Daca ceva merge bine din prima undeva este o gresala.
